Cuyahoga riverfront clean-up among Cuyahoga County’s $18M in state brownfield grants
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County has secured nearly $18 million in state funding for major cleanup and remediation projects, including money for the Cleveland Metroparks’ plan to create more public greenspace in the Flats.
The awards in Cuyahoga County were among 51 projects receiving a combined $60 million in funding from the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program that was announced Thursday.
The Cuyahoga Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $15.7 million of the total to tackle seven major cleanup and remediation projects across the county, with resulting developments projected to create more than 450 new jobs once completed.
One of those grants is for the Metroparks’ plan to transform the site of a former flour mill and grain storage complex in the Flats. The historic site, between the Center Street (Swing) Bridge and the Metroparks’ Merwin’s Wharf restaurant, includes structures dating back to the 1880s.
